Director, VCU Ventures
Ms. Monk serves as the Director of VCU Ventures at Virginia Commonwealth University. Prior to her role at VCU, Ms. Monk served 2 years as Vice President of Marketing and Business Development for a U.S. based private equity firm, Virginia Life Science Investments. In this role, Ms. Monk evaluated a diverse range of technologies for potential investment and played an active role inside portfolio companies to ensure maximization of shareholder value. Ms. Monk has also served as Vice President of Virginia Biosciences Commercialization Center, a firm focused on developing commercialization strategies for later stage medical device companies. During her 5 years with the VBCC, she worked with multiple later-stage medical device companies leading or monitoring the development and implementation of commercialization strategies. These activities included strategic marketing, development of reimbursement and regulatory strategies, ongoing monitoring of product development, leading initial product sales and organization of distribution networks. Prior to her work with VLSI and VBCC, Ms. Monk spent 6 years with the Virginia Bio·Technology Research Park. During this time she served as Director of Marketing in the BioPark’s incubator facility which houses over 30 early-stage life science companies. Ms. Monk received a BS in Biochemistry from the State University of New York at Fredonia and her MBA from Virginia Commonwealth University.
New Venture Manager
Dominic Costanzo serves as the New Venture Manager of VCU Ventures at Virginia Commonwealth University. Prior to this role at VCU, Mr. Costanzo served 2.5 years as the Director for a technology incubator, the Dominion Energy Innovation Center. As Director, Mr. Costanzo was responsible for sourcing and evaluating prospective member startups, facilitating strategic partnerships to drive value and expand support for startups, as well as managing the daily operations of the facility. Mr. Costanzo also has experience operating a startup of his own, co-founding an online retail and digital media company in the action sports space shortly after wrapping up a stint competing with the United States Skeleton Team. Mr. Costanzo received a BS in Business from Virginia Commonwealth University.
New Venture Manager
As a New Venture Manager at VCU, Lacy wears many hats - from conducting technical analyses of university technology, to developing and administering programs that support early-stage companies, to day-to-day operations such as managing an office budget. She received her B.S. in Biomedical Engineering from VCU in May 2014. She is passionate about global healthcare, and spent a lot of time during her undergraduate career creating an organization at VCU aimed at improving the quality of healthcare in developing nations. In her professional career, Lacy’s work with VCU Ventures office has exposed her to many different aspects of entrepreneurship and early-stage investing in the healthcare space. Lacy grew up dancing competitively, and in her free time she enjoys yoga, seeing live music, and spending time with her family - specifically spoiling her baby niece!
